Appreciate that

but it took both teams for the Bucs to win, not just Cincy mistakes. At least a little credit to the other side, please.

You are welcome that you had a chance to win that game. If we don’t fumble that kick return. You lose 7 points. If Mike Williams doesn’t fumble at the 1, we we gain 7 points. Plus another INT by Freeman in Bengal territory. I am just sick of people saying the Bengals gave it to us. NO, if we didn’t shoot ourselves in the foot, it would have been. 24-14 at least in favor of us.

We got 17 points from Palmer turnovers.

by bucnut1 on Oct 11, 2010 11:34 AM EDT up reply actions

I will give you 7 points

Grimms TD was from Palmer the other 10 would not have happened had what I stated above actually happened. We would not have been trying to tie the game or kick a game winning FG. We might have still picked the passes off but it would have been to kill the clock not score.

by G Yeti on Oct 12, 2010 8:51 AM EDT up reply actions

Yep

First pick was Grimm’s pick-6, second pick was followed by Freeman driving downfield to score a TD. Last pick was followed by one pass and the game-winning field goal. 17 points.

by Sander on Oct 12, 2010 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Don't need to be a dick

I understand that stat…All I am saying is they would not have happened had we not made our errors.

by G Yeti on Oct 12, 2010 3:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Sorry, I did not mean to come off like that, my wording isn't always the best, so I do apologize.

But we did get our points off their turnovers. Freeman and Williams made some great plays, but we wouldn’t of had the ball or the chance if they hadn’t of turned the ball over.

AT THE END

This game looked like a back yard beer feast, neather team looked like they were serious. The Bucs 0 line practices VS the D line and it shows!!! were young and full of dumb, but hElL its a big W 10+10+10=10

by Bamafan2010 on Oct 11, 2010 2:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Grimm was a hitting machine today.

He looks really good for a rookie FS. The Int was huge and he made some strong tackles today.

by Pirate25 on Oct 10, 2010 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions

It was a great game.

Team never gave up and made huge plays in the clutch!

by Pirate25 on Oct 10, 2010 4:33 PM EDT reply actions

Love it love it love it love it

Negatives: Run defenses sucks, pass protection was bad, Sean Jones, Jeff Faine injuries are big problems, announcer was terrible.

Positives: WE WIN WE WIN WE WIN WE WIN. Passing game looked good. Mike Williams looked good outside one fumble. Rejus Benn looked good. Passing defense is great as long as Sabby stays off the field.

by Sander on Oct 10, 2010 4:33 PM EDT reply actions

Also wasn't happy with pressure on Palmer, but hey......

I won’t apologize for a win. Team didn’t give up.

That's very true.

I mean we would not have needed that INT if not for his horrible play.

by Pirate25 on Oct 10, 2010 5:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah.

Sabby sucks. no further explanation needed.

by BucsUp7368 on Oct 10, 2010 5:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Sabby is def not the answer

He caught a tipped pass , but that was huge. That will keep him as a backup but if jones is hurt we need to find a safety or trade for one. We are in trouble with sabby. He misses 10x as many plays as he makes. He was opportunistic and lets leave it at that.

Mike Williams and Freeman are the truth. I still would like to see huggy and blount get some carries. It is like wasting carries giving it to caddy. Atleast when blount gets stopped at the line , he gets 2 or 3 yards. Caddy gets 0. Huggy had a decent run but he only got 1. I guess it will take some time for us to fully trust in benn, huggy and blount but i don’t see why not. Look at grimm and williams.

Mccoy nearly had his first sack but he always seems to grab at the QB ankle . He needs to just keep trying, he is gettin really close. Gotta get that first 1, him and price. Hope price didn’t hurt that hamstring again.

LETS GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by tbbuc4 on Oct 10, 2010 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I dont really think you can blame Caddy

The O-Line has be terrible and has failed to open much of anything

by Tetris on Oct 10, 2010 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions

It was Caddy too

But the O-line desperately needs to be upgraded. Left guard especially

by Sander on Oct 10, 2010 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I think its the playcalling

but some blame to Oline & caddy. The opening drive, 3 caddy runs and a dumpoff… punt. Yeah thats a nice and surprising drive pfttt

by Titankillah on Oct 10, 2010 7:34 PM EDT up reply actions

definitely agree.

We cant stop the run and the d-line needs…..something. McCoy, Price and Miller need to be more stout. i dont know how many times the didnt get pressure up the middle. We need 2 DE’s too, who know more moves than just rush yourself around the Tackle. A win is a win is a win especially another clutch catch by Spurlock. D did stop em when we needed and came up with the splash plays.

by BucsUp7368 on Oct 10, 2010 5:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Our DT's are incosistent

But they are rookies and it’s going to be like that all year. They did make plays at times and should get better as the year goes on.

by Pirate25 on Oct 10, 2010 5:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I think

our DE situation plays into pressure more than people want to admit. McCoy gets double teams constantly on the interior, and if we had a RE that could take advantage of just taking on the LT we would be in business, but until someone on the right side shows they can get penetration in 4 man fronts its going to be hard for the DT’s to get pressure or stop the run consistently.

I personally really like McCoy’s play, others on the line, not so much.

by Sam Joxer on Oct 10, 2010 10:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Nice strong finish.

Love playing the Bengals. They are effing stupid. They run the ball all over us and keep letting Palmer air it out. They deserved to lose. Heck of catch by Spurlock, Freeman was so so, the running game was average at best, but we made some good plays. Awesome win, 3-1, great stuff.

I didn't watch

the game, i checked it out online around the beggining of the 4th and we were down, and they had the ball; But to my surprise we came back and won! I was looking in the box score, caddy 33 yards rushing? with 11 carrys? Did Blount even get in the game? if we are going to beat the Saints or anyone who was in the playoffs last year we have to run the ball. Keep their MVP QB’s off the field!

I've been groomed

On the Bengal’s since i was a kid. It never took. In ‘79 when i was playing hockey, I became a Tampa fan. Through the ’80’s I was basically the typical Bengal’s fan in the ’90’s. “Just wait until next year.” In my 20’s I started to to go out to see games at the local sports bars and really got to understand what the team was doing. I used to just watch Inside the NFL on HBO. Direct TV is the best thing i’ve ever seen in my life! I get to watch Tampa play every week. This Dec. 26th I get to see my first game in Tampa. I get to hang out with Tampa fans and finally feel at home. No listing to Bengal’s or Colt’s fans bad mouthing me for supporting my team. The Buccaneers are my team and I can’t wait! I still feel kinda’ bad for the Bengal’s, because all Tampa fans have been there before. Sorry, just had to get on my soapbox. I’m not that intelligent. LOL

I'm pretty sure his elbow was on the ground when the ball came loose.

The least, I thought it was inconclusive. And the catch, I don’t think he caught it, but these officials were making bad calls all game, or I should say non-calls. In the grasp? And now the defense can hit the QB after he starts his slide? I don’t get it.

Me too

I think with the ball coming out late they didn’t have enough to overturn it, but it probably shouldn’t have been ruled a catch in the first place

by Sander on Oct 10, 2010 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Ball never touched the ground even at the

End . He bobbled the ball when he got up but it never hit the ground. That’s the difference in the Calvin play. He spiked the ball even though he made the catch. Now if he dropped it when he was getting up, I would say the call would have been reversed. Spurlock has both game clinching catches – td vs browns and this fg setup. Big time plays , no better guy than a guy who has alwayys been on the outside looking in .

I think it’s safe to say mo stovall is done as a buc unless injury and Parker may assume the kr next week vs saints and most other weeks

by tbbuc4 on Oct 10, 2010 9:30 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

So...

Next weekend. What are the chances? Are we better than we thought, or are we going to face a tougher team and fold? I’d really like to think we have a chance… I’m just scared. What team will show up next week? Any defense? What about the offensive line? I hate to be the bummer, but seriously someone give me the odds? I’m not trying to be a downer or anything seriously.

Grimm had a real good game. Sabby still sucks, but like Raheem said last week, Grimm is actually playing pretty good. I think he had close to the team lead in tackles, he was just all over the field.

Running game still questionable in play call

I mean look at the opening drive, three runs and dump off to Caddy. Jesus, just put the light on him after scrutinizing him… I think if this running game is going to pan out, we need Caddy starting with blount spelling lightly to bang heads and get defenses tired. E.G. still has relevance but the run calls need more thought as to our o line strengths, which ain’t alot.

by Titankillah on Oct 10, 2010 7:23 PM EDT reply actions

the problem has been the wrong type of runs

they want to pound up the middle but there’s little in the way of run space there. Our O-line is too banged up to be that trustworthy. They need to call more off-tackle run attempts. Is Caddy just incapable of making that corner?

Witty's 2010 Draft review is full of meaty goodness. What you mean, you're vegan?! Sigh. Just read it.

Faine has "significant" quad injury :/

So yeah, our mediocre O-line is gettin’ banged up.

But them off-tackle runs, if you watch on DVR, our tackles never really get a good edge. Our touted “young” oline got complacent from their nice madden ratings and now their dragging ass.

…As to Caddy, yeah his step has been robbed from injuries. But somethin to me isn’t right.. Last year, w/ Sears, Caddy performed a full season with 900 yards. Now with more time and rehab and practice, he’s gettin’ less yards?? Naw bro, I smell poor oline fundamentals.

by Titankillah on Oct 11, 2010 12:56 AM EDT up reply actions

The more 200+ Yd performances Freeman has...

the more it will free up the box for the running game. That being said, I’d like to see more inside draw plays out of the Shotgun. Olsen loves to stick Freeman back there on those 4th quarter drives when he’s obviously passing, why not mix in some draw plays.

I know with such a young offense the game plan is going to be quite simple, but it’s nice to see the passing game making the most of it. Hopefully the run game will come next.

Ah Football, how I've missed you!

This is the season of UGLY!!!

Admit it, we got out played in all three wins but ended up with the “W”. It’s time to end the Cadillac era. His wheels are shot, he can’t make it to the holes and then he can’t fight off tackles like the old days.
Sabby should have been cut in preseason. He is just not a NFL defensive back. He too slow and he is consistently in the wrong place. Those people who think he’s going to turn into John Lynch are just deluding themselves.

by 13frain on Oct 10, 2010 7:45 PM EDT reply actions

I think the John Lynch reference was to Grimm… Again when you come out to the media and say your a run first team, it only makes it harder for your veteran-but injury prone running back to have a chance.. their constantly shooting themselves in the foot.. hey 13/f, have you seen a screen or anything to prove creativeness?

Zuttah is the C now. Team is going to have to go hunting for whomever is still on the market at OG/OT to fill the guard spot.

True, there are going to be some ugly wins this year

but they are wins. (And for the record I don’t think the Carolina win was all that ugly).

If you were going to compare this to last year, look at the Buffalo and Washington games. Both were early season games against weak opponents. The Bucs were never in the former, and died down the straight in the latter.

Compare that to this year, when we play weaker opponents, the team stays together and wins in the 4th quarter. That’s a sign of positive direction. It has to be more enjoyable for the players and I know for me as a fan, it’s a lot more fun to watch.

There are some weak spots on the team still, I don’t think anyone can deny that, but compared to where this team was last year, it has the ability to pick itself up when it’s down

Ah Football, how I've missed you!

Great win bucs!

I think this is the year of Tampa! Rays set the mark and bucs are following suit .

My moneyis on Freeman with the game on the line.

In mike Williams I trust

Grimm stepped up big time with sure tackling and pick 6

Morris knows his stuff, he made the best decision to call timeout. He has this young team believing they can win and he is developing a young team that will only get better with time

the caddy error is slowly coming toa end but if your winning , why change everything

Youth is starting to taste victory when old players last year tasted defeat first

I must admit there was a time I hated the Bucs, but the team you’re building now is tough and likeable. I hope we smoke you, of course, but I like the direction you’re heading in.

Oddest stat ever-

The Arizona cardinals won their game against the Aints without a single rushing touchdown or a passing touchdown.

Mike Williams has become Free’s #1 reciever, which is great and hopefully Benn can become Free’s #2 reciever so that defenses won’t focus on K2, therefore K2 becoming a surprise on the O.

Did Stroughter do anything today? He’s been near invisible.

I absolutely love Cramp Guy, he’s become a premier zone corner. Last year, M2M really didn’t show off his skills.

Our RUN GAME MUST STEP UP.

Our DL must get pressure before they near the red zone, I understand that Morris gets creative in/near the end zone with blitzes but someone outside of Mccoy has to step up. I thought Stylez G. White took himself out of some plays in the pass.

Piscitelli is terrible, I blame that interception on Palmer’s terrible decision making. Other than that, Piscitelli was dragged literally by Benson on near every play.

Ruud was Meh again, I didn’t hear his name called so i don’t know whether to take that as good or bad.

T.O did burn someone on that pass play

We shalt win, and be happy with it.

Heads up: the link to TB.com’s photogallery is here, you can see Williams Amazing TD catch here.

T.O. burned Talib on the touchdown with Piscitelli chasing him from 20 yards away.

Didn’t really see much from Stroughter. And when Piscitelli wasn’t being drug it was because he would totally miss. It was mostly just K2 and Williams today, though Benn grabbed a few early.

by bucs24fan on Oct 11, 2010 12:06 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Actually,
I blame that interception on Palmer’s terrible decision making.

Credit to Morris for coming up with that playcall, Talib actually deserved most of the credit- played good coverage on 85. Piscitelli was just in the right spot, which is way too much to say for him.

Bucs First Win in 1977 was pretty close

—The Arizona cardinals won their game against the Aints without a single rushing touchdown or a
—passing touchdown.

The ’77 Bucs did get a 5 yd TD pass from Gary Huff to Morris Owens and 2 FGs to go with 3 Interception returns for a TD. That game came to mind when I heard the above quote on TV, but research showed the Passing TD and a missed XP on one of the returns were responsible for the scoreline, not 3 TDs and 4 FGs like I had originally thought. Given that they only scored 103 points that season, the offensive TD was totally unexpected.

Yeah somewhat

But I can imagine that Rah is grooming him more for WR, as well he should being a converted QB, and with Preston in the grow room.

by Titankillah on Oct 11, 2010 1:02 AM EDT up reply actions

Part of me would rather have kept Peanut

and not taken a chance on Lumpkin. Its tough to say I’ve never seen Lumpkin run, but I know Spurlock has the big play ability to take a kick or punt to the house. On the other hand he has made some CLUTCH catches for us this year so it does make me wonder just how good of a WR he could grow into

by freeman05 on Oct 11, 2010 6:54 AM EDT reply actions

What impressed me most with the game was how those that made mistakes stepped up.

Freeman threw an interception, well he also threw a TD
M. Williams fumbled on the 4, well he also had two more fantastic catches in the 4th quarter, one of which was a TD
Spurlock fumbled a kick off, well his catch set up the game winning TD.
Grimm had a tough first start, well he came back and played strong and scored the team’s first points of the game.
Talib let TO get behind him, well he comes up with a huge 4th quarter INT
Sabby played like Sabby, well he made the most of being in the right spot at the right time.

One year ago, after those mistakes it would have been a slippery slope into players with their heads in their hands, and despair. Now players are coming back and stepping their game up.

Say what you will about Morris, but I get the feeling the players genuinely want to play for him.

Ah Football, how I've missed you!

im not sure Talib got burned by T.O.

i could be mistaken but i think they were in the tampa 2, so talib is suppose to let him go, sabby was once again out of position

by Carlitin1988 on Oct 11, 2010 9:18 AM EDT reply actions

I haven't re-watched the play, but I think it was probably man coverage with help over top, which lets Talib sit short knowing he can shadow.

If it were Tampa 2, Talib would’ve bumped T.O. and passed him on completely, which he didn’t do. He kind of shadowed him.

As you can always expect come from behind victory is when you least expect it.

It's impossible to tell what coverage was called just from the TV footage, really

Steve White, former Bucs DE, said it was Cover 3 and Talib’s responsibility – not Sabby’s. I’m inclined to believe him.

No, Palmer just threw it up, TO ran right by Talib although the announcers thought Talib tripped, but he was just burnt.

I noticed that too

Somebody should re-explain the Tampa Two to him. Note that his interception came on a tip when he was essentially off in no mans land with nobody to cover. I’ll give him credit for a good return though.

I rewatched that Interception of Sabby.

If Carson (who had plenty of time) had pump-faked, Sabby would have bit under again and i think Shipley would have been wide-open.

We don't know if a Tampa 2 was called

We really don’t – you can’t tell that from just the TV footage and we’ve been playing plenty of other coverages. It may just be that Sabby was following his assignments perfectly and Talib was the one who was responsible for TO.

by Sander on Oct 11, 2010 12:03 PM EDT up reply actions

With replays and re-watching it, it's clear Talib is carrying pretty far

He puts up his hand at some point for a reason I can’t understand, and then TO burns past him. May have just been a double move or something.

A bit further up in the game they show an all-22 view of the play

It’s clear that Talib goes with TO all the way and never looks to drop him off. He pulls up a little as he sees Palmer throw and the second Palmer throws Sabby races over there too. Sabby kept relatively close to the line of scrimmage probably to stop the run, but looking at it more and more I’m convinced Talib is simply one-on-one and he got beat.

I think Sabby was supposed to provide help. He was close to the LOS but the way he moves back

makes it look like he is disguising that he is in coverage. He backpedals but its hard to tell if he’s in Cover 1, Cover 2 or Cover 3. Based on Talib I say Cover 1 and Sabby was late.

Comparing this week to two weeks ago

I mentioned in a thread after the Steelers loss that the Bucs loss was not as bad as the scoreline showed and that we should not be too down on them. It was a matter of 3 or 4 plays (fumbles, tipped passes, etc…) that completely turned the score into the Steelers favor. Good teams make those things work for them. Two weeks ago, the Steelers were the better team.

This week, the Bucs reversed things on the Bengals. They made the Bengals mistakes work for them. On top of that, they actually won the statistical battle, barely. This is a 7-9 or 8-8 team, capable of beating all but the top tier of teams. Right now that tier does not include the Saints, so let’s hope we continue to get the effort of young players stepping up to establish themselves, like we did against the Bengals.
