So it is looking like Brandon Marshall's tenure in Denver may finally be over. Reports are streaming in about an alleged confrontation between Marshall and head coach Josh McDaniels which has resulted in Marshall being benched this Sunday.
I would like to advocate that the Buccaneers do anything and everything within their power to obtain Marshall in the offseason. The guys stats are amazing. Three straight seasons with at least 100 catches. He owns two of the top three "most catches in a game" performances. Like Clayton, Marshall can also throw a block, but unlike Butter hands, he can and will produce on the field.
Marshall is a restricted free agent, which means that Denver can match any team's offer or be compensated. I don't think they would match an offer by us. We can certainly afford him! If we re-sign Antonio Bryant to a reasonable contract and cut Clayton that will be enough to lure Marshall here. We have a hot young gunslinger quarterback who is fairly akin to Jay Cutler in his skill set. Cutler and Marshall were lightning in a bottle for two years in Denver.
Sure, the guy has some history, but if you look back on it, almost all of the controversy associated with him has been instigated by financial issues. He has been asking to be paid like a #1 receiver for years, and Denver has repeatedly failed to comply with his wishes. He easily deserves a better contract. There is no doubt in my mind that Marshall wants out of Denver, and if they are willing to bench him in a game with huge playoff indications then they may be more than willing to allow him to leave.
So please, please, please Mark Dominik. Make this happen. A pro bowl receiver is exactly what is missing on this offense. Then we can commit the entire draft to shoring up our swiss cheese defense. What do you guys think? Do you think that Marshall would look good in Pewter?
