The talk of the Buc's community is how horrible of a coach Raheem Morris is and the fact that the scheme that Jim Bates used is horrific....and blah blah blah.
Lets see here for a moment. In the Beginning of the off-season after Bucs ownership hired Raheem Morris the speculation was that Rah was hesitant at first to get the job. Apparently a brief talk with Jon Gruden inspired Raheem to take the job after his former coach basically said " run with it". We all know what took place after the hiring with the sudden dismissals of the core veteran players such as Brooks, Galloway, Dunn, June and so on. Seriously though if your a fan like me who studies the game while enjoying it at the same time saw what had happened to Brooks. He just wasn't cutting it anymore, and how many games did Galloway start last year? I didn't see a lot of 84 running deep fly routes and Dunn ( my fav. running back ever!) couldn't be that GUY anymore. I could make a case for June but that's not the point here though. The point is this patchwork of a team that could be competitive in spurts will never make this team a long term powerhouse. What was Raheem left with? He was left with a bunch of young unproven assets. The fact that ownership didn't bring in more talent wasn't exactly his fault? Raheem wouldn't have said no to a signing of Haynsworth or Suggs right? Raheem didn't draft Gaines Adams; Quincy Black, Geno Hayes, on defense. He didn't draft underachieving or untalented guys on offense. Granted he did get Ward and Winslow but still needs time to play itself out. He was given a bare cupboard of unproven players and was asked to TRY and make this work. Now its apparent that all of these players on the current roster is now playing for a spot for next years roster. Raheem will take his loses and evaluate his staff and players and won't hesitate to make changes if HE feels needs be. With the firing of Jags shows he's not playing around and he shouldn't be criticized for that IMO. Do we want to put aging vets on this team to make a 1-2 year run? Or do we chance having a bad season this year and build on young talent and be competitive for the next 10 years.
Who knows this team may turn this around to get it back to .500 by the end of the season? We still don't know who Black, Hayes, Sabby, Freemen etc. is yet. I can't stand it when someone mentioned that this team is not like the 96' team when we had Sapp, Brooks, and Lynch and so on. Are you kidding me? Seriously you guys had no friggin idea that these players were going to be the backbone of this team!! As far as fans saying that Jim Bates is a total fraud! The has to be the most idiotic statement I've ever heard. Did anybody watch the game on Sunday? The Bucs basically ran a COVER 2 the entire game. Jim Bates ( after the Cowboys game) figured out "you know what these guys can't fit into my scheme just yet". Look at the facts on Jim Bates and this guy will show you that he has had a top ten defense at least 7 times in his coaching career. We Bucs fans will take a top 15 if we can get it! Remember the days of the Dolphins hard nosed Defense that showcased Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, and Sam Madison? He doesn't have the guys ready yet folks lets deal with it and hope they get better throughout the season. So we're having a crappy year so be it....all we can do is cheer and hope this thing can turn around later this season or in 2010. The way I see it though...its really nobodies fault that we're playing this bad because we Bucs fans pretty much knew what was going to happen. You can't tell these 2nd and 3rd string players to just man up in the beginning of the season and play excellent. You can't expect Morris to make these players a playoff team this season when they're not ready. It takes time folks and that's what its going to take. Lets deal with it! " It is what it is" (quote from, Raheem Morris) yep your right on coach.
