I'll go with what the experts are saying that Freeman needs some more time to learn...

…so I’ll say Luke gets the nod to start the season.

McCown would figure to have the upper hand.

He’s had more time than Leftwich to learn the system, and Johnson’s still a project, though he’s probably ahead of Freeman at this point as far as being ready to step in to a game. I’d be shocked if Griese made it through the week on the roster.

Speaking of Johnson

do you think he gets cut? or do you think they might use him in a Wildcat type formation? It would be kind of silly to keep him as a developmental qb

johnson

stays..
too young to cut
i think this is our team
we will suit up mccown as starter
freeman 2nd string
letwitch 3rd
cut griese
johnson on practice squad

If johnson gets put on practice

that means we have to cut him for our “roster” and anyone has the option to sign him.

My Guess

I would say that Luke does not have the job for sure yet. I would defiantly say it is between him and Byron at this point. If Luke does not show in the rest of the off season and pre season that he is capable of running the offense and being able to win games. I think they will go with Byron based on the fact he is a veteran. Griese is defiantly gone, JJ I am not sure what they are going to do with him my guess would be practice squad and Freeman will be third string. I do not see him getting any starts this season unless Luke and Byron either do horribly or get injured. He really is not ready to start though I am hopeful for him now because it seems like Luke and Byron are both very supportive of him and they all seem to have great attitudes which I think is really important for a team to be successful.
