Around SBN: New York Giants Super Bowl XLVI Ring Unveiled

During a chat session with NFL.com, Josh Freeman had the following to say. Maybe the rookie needs to learn what he should just keep to himself.

"I felt that all along," he wrote. "Even when they picked up Byron Leftwich. It was something they told me -- they told me it was a smoke screen, everybody would think they didn’t want a QB. They said they were ready to trade up. I think it worked out great. I was sitting there with my family and enjoying it, and I got to go to the team that I wanted to go to."

now it will be really awkward

if the Bucs immediately release Leftwich, that will really make future free agents want to land here, especially when the NFL Draft is approaching…

Yeah...

…like Freeman or not, I don’t think this was the most intelligent thing he could’ve said. Even if it’s true (which it very well could be), he needed to keep this to himself.

Raheem defused the situation:

“We talked about that this morning. Sometimes quotes are taken out of context. The young man was asked the question and he kind of answered it the wrong way. Hey, Leftwich called him this morning and told him he’s going to put him in a headlock when he gets down here and then after that he’s going to put him under his wing and get him ready to go. So, they talked on the phone this morning and I think we’re okay.”Bucs Beat

I never saw this becoming a huge issue unless of course they cut Leftwich… I can’t wait for the May OTA’s… I’m jacked up for this season, there are so many subplots to keep an eye on…

Oh, I don't see it as a big issue too...

…I just think it was funny and Freeman needs to learn to not always say everything.

Bust waiting to Happen

What is the difference between Josh Johnson and Freeman? Name a prospect any prospect, especially at QB that was drafted on athletic potential with either minimal or questionable college production that has been successful? Big bodies, arms, speed, and athletism doesn’t win football games. Doug Flutie, Jeff Garcia , etc JUST WIN! They produced everywhere they got the opportunity to play and produced in the most important way, they helped the TEAM WIN. Freemen’s team LOST. Blame the program all you like, he was the QB and leader and KSU LOST. His production was in the bottom half of the Big 12. Every scout, analyst, coach that talked about him said he made dumb, slow, or bad decisions CONSISTENTLY. The most consistent aspects of this kid’s football career so far is Losing, bad throws, and not living up to his potential. Either Josh post this in your locker and use it as motivation, win the job and then WIN Football games!

I have to agree with this...

…at least partially. There aren’t many (read there are VERY, VERY FEW) quarterbacks who were average in college but stars in the NFL. As the Bucs QB, I’ll support the guy because I’m a Tampa Bay fan, but I still have a hard time seeing this work out well in the long run. If we learn anything from the NBA, players drafted based on upside rarely pan out.

I'm with you both.

In a weak draft class, we would have been wise to follow the Patriots model for drafting. Since we already spent a #2 and a #5 on a TE (?!), we should have traded down, not up, to collect some bodies for our crumbling D. Go after that elusive franchise QB next year, when we have a higher pick to work with after going 4-12 this year.

it's all good

I think he will be decent, as long as he can manage the game, and we bring in a few free agents, then it will be good. All i hope is for a decent QB to manage the game and not turn the ball over, if he can do that, our RB, and our Defense could win us the game…
