The NFL fined Raheem Morris $20,000 for his actions in Sunday's game against the Dolphins, likely for his tirade after a blown call led to a Dolphin touchdown a the end of the first half. His rant drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and cost the Buccaneers 15 yards as the Dolphins scored 10 points in less than two minutes en route to a 25-23 victory.

Man,

considering he didn’t make much more than this in a year a few years back, this probably hurts him a little more than your average head coach.

NFL

He was penalized on the field. Nobody got hurt. To fine him now, is stupid. The NFL is getting crazy with the fines for criticism against refs. IMO, the NFL owes the entire Buccaneer team an apology for such a terrible call. I have heard their reasoning, and it still sounds like horses*#@. How many times do you see a player called down on replays when their knee hits the ground? Both of his knees hit and his back before the ball moved.

Ok, I just read it on the Pewter Report.

I still don’t agree. He maintained possession and showed no sign of losing the ball until after both feet, both knees and his back/butt was on the ground. It wasn’t until his last roll over did the ball come loose. Do we have to wait for a whistle now until the player is down?

I heard a great discussion on the Steve Czaban show

(which is probably my favorite Sports Talk Host) about the NFL actually collecting their fines. They cited a Wall Street Journal article (WSJ has an underrated sports dept.) about how often the NFL and other leagues alike collect fines. It was something like only 80% of the time do they collect some money, and often they don’t collect it all. Leagues have a hard time pressing coaches and players for the fines, fines are OFTEN repealed or reduced but it is not reported, thus we don’t hear about it.
